Storyline: The movie starts out with Arthur, King of the Britons, looking for knights to sit with him at Camelot. He finds many knights including Sir Galahad the pure, Sir Lancelot the brave, the quiet Sir Bedevere, and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir Lancelot. They do not travel on horses, but pretend they do and have their servants bang coconuts to make the sound of horse's hooves. Through satire of certain events in history (witch trials, the black plague) they find Camelot, but after literally a quick song and dance they decide that they do not want to go there. While walking away, God (who seems to be grumpy) come to them from a cloud and tells them to find the Holy Grail. They agree and begin their search. While they search for the Grail, scenes of the knight's tales appear and why they have the name they have. Throughout their search they meet interesting people and knights along the way. Most of the characters die; some through a killer rabbit (which they defeat with the holy ...

If you cant laugh at this movie, then you're taking LIFE WAY TOO SERIOUSLY
What can you say about this, this movie is a classic. I saw this movie when I was a freshmen at college. I was run by some school association. So myself and some dorm buddies went to the campus common and saw this movie outside on the big screen. Also there was free pizza and drinks. PERFECT COMBO. I laughed so hard, I seriously puked up all the pizza I ate. People who just didn't think this movie was funny, need to loosen up. Sometime you just need to relax, don't worry about the plot making sense and let your funny bone get the best of you. Everybody need to watch this movie at least once in their life. 10 out of 10
The most wicked movie ever made and also the funniest!
This isn't just another movie about knights this is The Quest For The Holy Grail, with the worlds finest comedy group, the Monty Pythons.

King Arthur is given the quest to find the holy grail. he and the knights around the round table.

The Movie where nothing is what you think it will be, is filled with wicked characters and well... wicked things in general. The Movie starts with King Arthur and his servant Patsy beginning the quest. as they travels further other Knights such as Brave Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot and many other knights join up. they stand before the challenge of their life to find the Grail! But many difficulties awaits them and many of them are either strange or just wicked.

There are many unforgettable scenes and even more unforgettable quotes. The Actors and actresses are making the roles of their lives and the script is as close to perfect a script can be.

Its very unpredictable!!!!

This movie isn't like any other movie you've seen except maybe "Life O Brian". I can guarantee you that even if you so only liked one MP sketch you will like this one. The best comedy ever! and its REAL comedy. If this movie wont make you laugh i don't know what movie could.

SEE IT! and if u don't watch it well suit your self.

Absolutely hilarious, but wildly uneven, towards the end really disappointing spoof of historical king and knight movies. The troupe are in great shape and deliver terrific punchlines. Still some just don't work and the lack of story really lets this falter along the way. Still, the most imaginative running gag when the movie is mixed with reality works very well. Great art direction, costumes and atmospheric cinematography.
Worthy of the Title 'Holy'
Oh, don't get me wrong. This wasn't the greatest movie of all time, but it was excellent. I find the British brand of dry humour to be a superior one. I realize that there are plenty of people who would rather sit back and watch Adam Sandler, but this is classic. You have, in essence, possibly the most famous British legend of all time and the masters of the trade (the Pythons), and out of it you get a wild excursion filled with corny jokes and lame surprises, but presented in such an excellent way that you ADORE the film by the time it's done.

True, the Pythons did a lot of other works, but this is their masterpiece (in my opinion anyway). So if you didn't watch it, or didn't like it, I strongly urge you to watch it again. There is nothing better than sitting down with a bag of popcorn and enjoying the spoof of a guy to prissy to clean his own gauntlets. So enjoy yourself. Choke on the kernels while watching the entire Python clan fight off loony foes and battle unexplicably odd odds.
So silly you'll slap yourself silly!
This is the best the Python's have made. The Holy Grail contains their silliest material, Graham Chapman is drunk during the entire shooting and John Cleese is fabolous as french.

Well, that aint all, prepare for some of the most silly things you ever have seen. Forget the new silly movies that the Farrelly brothers do (I like them alot but they can't compete with the Python's) and do the Pythonwave instead.

Unforgetable silly scenes: "The Cocoanuts" "The French Taunting" "How much can a Swallow carry?" "The Black Knight" "The Knights of Camelot" "Sir Robin's tale" "Sir Lancelot's tale" "Sir Galahad's tale" "The knights who say 'Ni'" "Tim the Enchanter" "The Killer Rabbit" "The Holy Handgrenade" "The Castle of Aaaarrgghh"

Well don't miss it. I know many get upset by the flat ending, but I think the Python's did a Kaufman there, the joke was on us, and it was the Python's laugh. After som many silly jokes for us, I guess the endingjoke is quite alright.

10 of 10.
See this and you will never watch a historical / fantasy / armour wearing film the same way again. Boorman's Excalibur trembles when Holy Grail is in the neighbourhood!

Breath of fresh air.

Chapman excels.

The Silliest Film Ever Made...
From a technical viewpoint, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" could be called a seriously flawed and impaired film. Filmed on location in the UK with a minimal budget and regular "Python" cast members, I seriously doubt that anyone working on the project at the time had believed it would spark such a cultural phenomenon. And revisiting the movie now, post its release 28 years ago, is magical.

First-time viewers may be puzzled by the film's odd opening--in fact, stories of those who thought that they had entered into the wrong screening room come in abundance. But as soon as the voice of the coarse British man is audible the viewer realizes that he or she has been duped once again by the Python Troupe.

King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table have been sent on a most glorious quest by God Himself--to seek and maintain the Holy Grail, the legendary cup that Christ drank from during The Last Supper, prior to His execution, and which later caught His blood as he was left danging upon the cross.

But the seriousness surrounding the Holy Grail is left wholly untouched by the members of Monty Python--instead, we follow King Arthur and his men as they come upon an odd assortment of characters, including The Black Knight, Dennis, The Knights Who Say "Ni!", and The Killer Rabbit, all of whom hinder the daring soldiers in their quest for the Holy Grail.

Many people will find the humor of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" ingenious, while others will find the exact same jokes and stints repetitive and ridiculous. I myself did not enjoy the film the first time I saw it as a child, but over the years I have come to appreciate its humor a bit more. I still find the jokes a bit too stretched out at times, and certain gags, though hilarious the first ten times, get a bit humorless the twentieth time around (the coconuts, for example, which are amazingly silly when first introduced, soon become tiring when they are treated as the highlight of a joke repetitively). However, often enough the jokes introduced at certain points in the films are merely played in the background further into the film--for example, the fact that the men do not ride on horses is quite a major idea the first time it is revealed, and becomes the central subject of a conversation between Arthur and the man atop the castle battlements. But later on the notion of no horses is played smaller and in the background as so we can concentrate on the current jokes at hand, as well as the missing horses as an added bonus.

There is absolutely nothing to truthfully discuss about "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," other than to say that at first it seems quite obnoxious, but it starts to grow on you. And this movie has definitely made a deep dig into our culture. In fact, on the commentary track for the newer DVD, John Cleese mentions that a pro American football player (or "footballer" as the English call them) and his buddy were thinking of a plan in the midst of a serious game. Their strategy was this on the field: Run away! Run away!

There are countless classic scenes, including the battle between The Black Knight and King Arthur ("I've had worse!"); the scene where Sir Lancelot the Brave (or Launcelot, as the script for the film names him) storms the Swamp Castle in hopes of rescuing a fair maiden and, in result, ends up destroying everything in his path (including the candle mounted along the wall leading to the spiralling staircase), saying that he gets a bit frantic and over-excited in this genre; Sir Robin and the Three-Headed Knight ("...when danger reared its ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled..."); The Knights Who Say "Ni!" and their request for a shrubbery; the Killer Rabbit's attack on Arthur's merry men. That's just to name a few memorable scenes.

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" may be the silliest film ever put on celluloid. It rarely makes sense, sometimes falls a bit flat, but always puts a smile on your face. And that's an achievement.
Ni! Ni! Niiii!
I am Canadian but I appreciate British humor to the greatest extent. This film is the height of all British comedies... Or maybe of comedies anywhere! There was not one point in the entire film where I caught myself thinking "well that was pointless". Because basically, the whole movie is pointless in a positively wonderful way. The knights who say Ni, Herbert, Sir Lancealot, Tim, The black night, sir robin, the castle anthrax, the killer rabbit, mean french, are all so delightful in this movie. I laughed the entire way through. And of course, I had to show my friends, and my friend ruined my leather couch by crying so hard from laughing. (it is advised not to watch this movie while sitting on any leather furniture. ha ha This is definitely the most fun movie to watch. Mp: athg is my favorite of the Monty Python Movies... I highly recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to rent/buy/whatever this movie. you wont regret it!!!!!
Great movie
One of the funniest movies i've seen in my life, monthy python really can make you go crazy. Peasants who know social politics, animal kingdom studies plus a king arthur who seems to be a total idiot yet always getting by with great "moves". The "inocence" of people in king arthur's time is replaced with cunning remarks and stunning situations. You can recognize many stuff in this movie from children books and history movies, but it's all modified to give it a really laughing sense.

I won't say much more because i do not wish to be a spoiler, yet i say that if you like non-sense laughing stuff and especially the monthy python's then movie is definitely for you, otherwise do stay away or you'll spent everything else but a nice time.

- What's the airspeed velocity of a swallow? - what do you mean, African or European?

i give it 10 cause i've never laughed so much in my life.
The silliest of Python movies
Holy Grail is easily the silliest of all the Python movies, save And Now For Something Completely Different which isn't really a movie at all but a series of some of the better sketches from the Flying Circus. Of course saying that Holy Grail is silly certainly isn't insulting it in any way, it may be the funniest Python movie ever made, although the humor isn't for everyone. The pure randomness and all out impossibility of everything that happens is what makes it so funny, this is definatly present in their other films but generally not to the degree that is seen in Holy Grail. I have a hard time deciding whether Holy Grail or Life of Brian is the better movie, while Holy Grail tends to get more overall laughs, Life of Brian's jokes seem more intelligent and well thought out. I would say that Holy Grail is better for a first time viewing, but Life of Brian tends to be funnier over repeat viewings. Both movies are simply fantastic and nothing made nowadays can come close to rivaling the all out hillarity that was Python.

I don't know how you people can not like the ending to Holy Grail, in my oppinion it fit in so perfectly with the rest of the movie. You guys love other odd quips of the same sort such as the holy hand grenade, the animator suddenly dying to kill off a monster, the black knight and cocconuts being used in place of horses yet a completely random and unexpected ending doesn't sit right with you? That just seems strange to me. Personally, I think having a big budget, flashy fight scene at the end would've made the movie seem stale and unoriginal, it simply wouldn't fall in with the style of the rest of the film. They needed to put in something that would make audiences say "What the hell was that all about?" at the end at that's exactly what they did.

While the members of Python have now gone their seperate ways you can still see the same type of wackiness coming up in newer movies they've contributed to. I would say the most prominant would be the films Terry Gilliam has directed, most of them aren't meant to be funny but the aching attention to detail he puts into his strange, chaotic sets will often remind you of something out of Python. The best examples would be Brazil and to a lesser extent Twelve Monkeys, both strange, fantastic movies, even though they're not particularly funny.
